keep calm and carry on...

via

so this poster on etsy has been an inspiration today.
i have been reading a little bit by bit in my book Organized Simplicity that i was given for Christmas, and have been trying to take it to heart.

tonight, after supper and finishing the movie Never Let Me Go, (in which i cried very hard,) Landon and I commenced with a de-cluttering party throughout half of our apartment.  we moved from room to room and removed items that we don't use, don't need, or don't want.  we now have a huge box overflowing with unwanted items by our front door...some of which will be sold at a garage sale this summer.  it has already been a huge relief!  i'm tired of non-useful stuff...even if it was given to us.

in the book, there are some great quotes that i have been mulling over:

"Too many people spend money they haven't earned, to buy things they don't want, to impress people they don't like." - Will Rogers

"We value life experiences. Things are just things." - Tsh Oxenreider

"When you own less, you take better care of the things you keep in your home because you've adhered to the mantra coined by the nineteenth century artist and designer William Morris: 'Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful.' You value your possessions.  They don't own you, and you're free to enjoy them." - Tsh Oxenreider

we are ready and have made a commitment to a simple and clutter-free life, and i am SO excited!!

here's to breathing easier with less stuff to stress me out...

I've actually got that poster hanging in my room! You can a pretty big sized copy of it from Hobby Lobby for around $8.

There's actually a lot of history to that poster: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keep_Calm_and_Carry_On
